I beg to report the following particulars for
your information:-
Fan Tat Shang, master of steam launch Chang Sha, Hong Kong License, reports that he left Wuchow at 11 a.m. on the 1st instant with a crew of 18 men, towing the lighter Sai Wo lagded with cargo and one passenger for Hong Kong, and at 9.80 p.m. when at A Cheuk Mi, near Shek Ki, Heung Shan District, about 80 men fired from both banks of the river at the launch and the lighter, killing the pilot named Young Ha, 50 years of age, and wounding 3 men on the launch and 2 on the lighter. The launch was stopped and after firing a fow volleys, the robbers boarded her and the lighter and searched everyone, taking away money, jewellery and clothing, value over $1000.00, also the launch license, permit and customs papers; before leaving the pirates told them to tell their master that they were the Hop I Tong and Lung Fung Tong men and the master had better pay them some money. The pirates took the compradore of the lighter named Ng I with them saying that they would hold him for ransom,- after they had left at 11.80 p.m., he took the lighter in tow and reached the harbour at 11.15 a.n. The body of the pilot has been removed to the mortuary, none of the wounded men would go to Hospital, their wounds being very slight.
The names of the wounded mon and list of property stolen will be furnished as soon as possible.
